  • "We have just had a wonderful week at Barney’s Hideaway."

The house was in a beautiful and tidy condition on arrival. There were snacks, fresh milk, tea and coffee available to use as we arrived. The kitchen is well equipped and has all you need if you want to cook a full meal, with adequate crockery and a lovely big dining area. The weather was bitterly cold due to it being January, but the heating system was very good, and you can control each radiator to suit. The wood burner in the lounge was great and heated the room in an instant. The bedrooms were all very comfortable and clean, and the jacuzzi bath was a favourite with the family, the shower was also powerful and hot!. The home owner kept in touch via text messaging and checked that we were all ok and comfortable. Glossop itself is a beautiful place, full of character. I have previously visited the area on two occasions. Plenty of welcoming pubs, restaurants and cafes. We used Aldi to shop, which was only a short walk away, but there is also a Tesco and Lidl. The local people are friendly and welcoming. Parking is on the main road, but was easily available and there were no issues at all. We visited Buxton, but generally stayed local. There is so much beautiful countryside available to see, but the temperature dropped and we had a coating of snow, so we enjoyed staying local and spending time at the house. We had a very relaxing week away and would certainly return to this lovely place!

Thank you for your lovely comments. I look forward to hosting you all again sometime in the not so distant future. Kind Regards Carol Property Owner

  • "With my family now spread between Northern Ireland and East Anglia, I booked Barney's Hideaway as a convenient location to meet up for a delayed Xmas and New Year celebration."

We all loved Barney's - The house is beautifully laid out, cosy, pet friendly and sympathetically decorated (but not so pristine as to feel uncomfortable, as sometimes can be the case). Parking outside is easy. The living space is open and sociable, and the kitchen bright and very well equipped and had pretty much everything required to produce two celebration meals. The bedrooms are big, well appointed and extremely comfortable (we slept in the attic, which was a lovely room), and the bathroom modern and clean (I really appreciated the jacuzzi bath after a long walk on New Year's day!). The property is only a couple of hundred meters from the railway station and town centre, and, as I discovered, you can be out on the high peaks on foot in under an hour. We were all sad to leave and could have done with a few extra days to explore - lovely property and an area with so much to offer - would definitely return.

Thank you for your kind comments, much appreciated. Regards Carol Property Owner

  • "Great property."

Well equipped and comfortable. Really good location for walking and nice pubs and restaurants nearby. Carol really friendly and helpful. Easy parking on street outside. Knives could do with a sharpen, and the heating seemed to cycle on and off at odd times.

Also spacious A very good location (near to the station) and quiet. PS I wanted to give a five star rating, but in the form this was not possible.

  • "We have had a wonderful weekend, the cottage is fully equipped, the house is beautiful, and after a long day, it is so welcoming."

We loved the artwork in the dining room. Our daughter wondered if he was a local artist. Each room is very tastfully decorated and comfortable. We would highly recommend the cottage and would come back again. Thank you for all your contact information, helping with suggestions on where to go. Any question, the owner is available to answer. Thanks again, Carol wood and family.

  • "Clean and comfortable in a great location with ample on the road parking however we felt attention to detail lacking in some areas."

No welcome pack or gesture, doesn't have to be anything grand but guests really do expect this! The garden area and front path needs attention, the grass was long, weeds and some of the garden furniture is unusable and needs replacing, the bbq had not been cleaned after last use. The shared garden is secure however on a couple of occasions there was someone in the garden hanging out washing with no prior arrangement, (the owner maybe not sure as they didn'tintroducethemselves) we didn't mind this but not great if you have a nervous dog! No information folder so unsure of bin emptying protocol etc, a guest comments book is always a nice touch too! Blackout blinds essential in all bedrooms! The attic room bed is incredibly squeaky and needs attention. A few small tweaks can transform this property from good to excellent!
